What inspires these jewelry designs?

When I look at a beautiful sunset, a Turkish rug, or a vase of flowers, I translate what I see into jewelry. A stand of trees isn’t just a lush green landscape; it’s moss agate, aventurine, seraphinite, and jade combined in a multi-strand necklace, perhaps with a few sterling silver leaves added to the mix.  I love the creative process – starting with a broad concept and then refining it until I have a piece of jewelry that I would be proud to have someone wear and enjoy.

For many years, I managed creative people – graphic designers, photographers, and video producers.  Jewelry making gives me the opportunity to put my own creativity in motion.  I have a passion for designing unique, yet affordable, jewelry.

What's the story behind the aviation jewelry?

I have long been a member of the Ninety-Nines, the International Organization of Women Pilots. Several years ago, I started making aviation-related jewelry. Sales support aviation scholarships awarded by the Phoenix Chapter of the 99s.

Where did the name Neck Interest come from?

At one point in my career, I was responsible for media relations for a large organization.  Attending a media relations training class with my colleagues, I was chosen from the group for a mock interview. Afterward, the teacher reviewed my performance (mostly positive) but ending with the criticism that I had no "neck interest."

Confused?  So was I. The teacher explained that women on television (reporters, news anchors, talk show hosts, etc.) are often only seen in a medium close-up.  She told me to pay attention to these women and said I would find that most of them would have "neck interest" -- a necklace, scarf, or other accessory. She was right and if I was going to be interviewed on television as a representative of my company, I needed neck interest, too.

Many years later, when I started making jewelry, I remembered that phrase and decided to adopt it for the name of my company.  That doesn't mean I limit myself to necklaces.  You'll find bracelets and earrings in my portfolio and on this website.
